Tornado!!!

A Tornado just went over me. Seriously.

This one, to be exact. Obviously, I'm ok. No major damage, but it threw some cars near where I was (at work). I babysit for a family who lives half a mile from Lake Thunderbird, and the twister separated the marina from the dock. It's in the middle of the lake now. Growing up in Oklahoma, this is far from my first tornado, but they rarely hit my hometown. They frequently hit central Oklahoma, which is where I am now for school. It's a whole new ball game now.

  2. No, thankfully. That's a screencap from helicopter footage. I've grown up around these beasts, but I've never experienced such a strong one this close.

  3. ...That's one thing you and I have in common (other than Ginger, of course...) - we both live in a 'tornado alley'... I am in central Alabama, and we get at least 3-4 major 'tornadic' (Is that a word? The weather guys sure use it a lot...) events each spring...but we can get one anytime - one year a tornado hit Tuscaloosa, southwest of here, a week before Christmas!
The big difference here is that there are a few mountains and hills which usually 'breaks up' the path a bit... the flatness of Oklahoma allows them to gain strength quite disturbingly.
Hope all is well with you and family / friends... it is pretty sobering to realize how fragile existance is when one of these blow thru...
    Keep safe, Maggie!

  4. Tornados? Jesus. I guess I shouldn't complain about living in Sweden, then... Just a Tjernobyl meltdown every now and then, not that serious ;)
